Any foreign national with approved Confirmation of Permanent Residence [COPR] can now travel to Canada from June 21, 2021.

The Canadian government made this immigration announcement in a document shared with reporters.

Foreign nationals must make sure their COPR is not expired for any individual planning to travel to Canada, the Canadian government announcement added.

COPR is the document issued to those approved by IRCC to immigrate to Canada.

This means the individual has met IRCC’s program criteria, paid their fees, and passed health, security, and criminality screenings.

With a COPR, they can travel to Canada to begin their new life.

Safe and gradual arrival of new permanent residents into Canada

The Canadian government said more information on when and how to obtain a new COPR will be updated shortly on IRCC website.

They further insist saying anyone with expired COPR should not book their flights or attempt to travel to Canada until IRCC issue a new COPR to them.

COPRs is valid for up to one year. It is tied to the applicant’s passport and their immigration medical examination.

Many individuals could not travel to Canada due to coronavirus disruptions or because they fall under one of Canada’s travel restrictions.

This has caused their COPR to expire. They don’t need to go through the immigration process again.

However, they will need IRCC to reissue a new valid COPR to enable them to travel to Canada.

How the Canadian government wants to help applicants with expired and expiring COPRs

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] is working with expired COPR holders to reissue new COPRs.

This COPRs issue is what the Canadian federal department that facilitates the arrival of immigrants to Canada will do, according to the announcement.

However, a total of 23,000 COPRs, according to Canadian government information, are unable to travel to Canada since March 2020.

That was when the Canadian government imposed coronavirus travel restrictions.

Up until now, only those holding a valid COPR issued on or before March 18, 2020 are excused from Canada’s COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Those who got their COPR after March 18, 2020 can only travel to Canada if they meet one of Canada’s other travel exemptions.

Or they are residents of the United States and are moving to Canada to settle permanently.

COVID-19: Latest Canada Immigration rules

COPR holders need to follow Canada’s travel rules upon arrival.

The latest Canada Immigration rules include possibly staying in quarantine for 14 days.

However the Canadian federal government also announced on Monday that those fully vaccinated will be excused from the quarantine requirement.

Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, Canada has set a target of welcoming over 400,000 new immigrants per year.

This will begin in 2021 and the Canadian government say they are on track to achieving this goal.

Canada offers one of the world’s most open and dynamic immigration systems.

It has over 100 different Canadian immigration pathways for skilled workers, business people, and families.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau in June 2019 invited a million immigrants from individual countries to come to Canda
