In 2019, the governor was celebrated when he announced that he has enrolled his son in a public school in September that year.

El Rufai along side other dignitaries escorted six-year-old Sadiq to school that day and images circulated by the state government on social media was widely celebrated.

Fast forward two years later, the governor has now explained in an interview monitored by BBC Pidgen that he has since withdrawn not only his son but also his daughter enrolled in the same school to protect the lives of the other pupils in the school.

“My son was registered in the school so also was my daughter who clocked six years. But we needed to temporarily withdraw them for the security of the school because we had intercept from at least two groups who planned to attack the school to kidnap my son.”

“I don’t think that they will succeed because enough security will be there to prevent them, but other children will be placed in danger. We have no idea the types of weapons they will come with, I have taken a stand against paying bandits and we had information about at least three groups that planned to go kidnap my son from Capital school to see if I will pay ransom for my child.” El-Rufai explained.

The governor further revealed that his son is still registered with the school but is currently receiving home schooling at home and only goes to school to write exams.

NLC in the state had embarked on strike to protest against mass disengagement of workers and other alleged anti-labour moves by the government.

Wabba had during the flag-off of the action on Monday said the strike action would last the entire week unless the state government attended to the workers grievances.

The labour union also grounded all economic activities in the state.

The state has also been thrown into darkness by the electricity workers union, supply of petroleum product cut by Nupeng (Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers), and aviation and railway workers also shut the Kaduna International Airport and the Kaduna-Abuja train service.

El-Rufai on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday declared the labour leaders wanted for ‘economic sabotage & attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous Offences Act.’

Why is the NLC on strike in Kaduna state?

Earlier, the Kaduna state government announced that it was spending over 90% of the states revenue on civil servants and it wants to ‘rightsize’ the state’s civil service. NLC alleges that the state plans to cut as much as 9000 jobs across the state’s civil service.

The venue, Asher Hotel in Barnawa Kaduna South, was said to be the proposed venue for a nude party which angered most people in Nigeria’s conservative north.

KASUPDA made the announcement on Twitter. The agency while also alleging that the hotel  was caught contravening the Covid-19 guidelines of the state, posted photos of the demolition exercise and vowed that it “will not hesitate to demolish properties used for such [an] immoral act.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the Kaduna State police command said its men have arrested the organizers of the maiden edition of a nude party in the city.

The party which received a lot of publicity on social media was billed to hold on December 27, 2020.  It was however canceled after much public outrage.

Special Assistant to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Media, Abdullah Yunus, on Wednesday said the police had waded into the matter and that arrests had been made.

He said the police acted promptly after banners were placed on social media platforms.

“When we got to know of this development, the government was disturbed, so the governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, informed the police,” he said.

The promotion flyer for the party indicated it was expected to last till daybreak during which participants would have sex with several participants for a fee ranging from N2,000 for the popular side and N3,000 to N5,000 naira for the VIPs.
