<p>An early morning tanker explosion which happened at Ogere area of the popular Lagos Ibadan expressway resulted in the deaths of two people, two cars and 11 trucks burnt.</p>

<p>The fire started around 6am Tuesday morning when a fully load petrol tanker crashed into another truck in the middle of heavy traffic on the highway.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="480" height="270" src="http://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119015733_pipo.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1628" srcset="https://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119015733_pipo.jpg 480w, https://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119015733_pipo-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>Due to the heavy traffic, the fire was able to spread to other cars and trucks that were around the tanker and all caught fire.</p>

<p>Emergency teams on ground confirm to reporters that two people died in the incident while other victims were rushed to the hospital.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="480" height="270" src="http://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119016929_oneofthetrucksweyburn.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1629" srcset="https://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119016929_oneofthetrucksweyburn.jpg 480w, https://africaexplained.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/119016929_oneofthetrucksweyburn-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>Federal and state fire fighters quenched the fire at around 8am, but the fire returned a few minutes later as some of the other loaded trucks began to leak their content on the road.</p>

<p>The incident lead to total closing of the highway with nobody unable to drive into Lagos or Ibadan through the road.</p>

<p>The traffic situation caused by the fire also affected vehicles heading towards the eastern parts of the country.</p>

<p>As at press time emergency agencies have completely put out the fire and began evacuating the burnt vehicles from the road to open up the highway.</p>

<p>This incident is happening just a few days after another tanker fire happened in Lagos and destroyed part of the Ogun state owned Opic building.</p>
