Politicians Deny COVID-19 Existence, Take Vaccines Secretly – Deji Adeyanju
Social activist, Deji Adeyanju, says some politicians who deny the existence of coronavirus in public take vaccines secretly. He said this during an interview on Monday.
The activist said this while reacting to Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s denial of the existence of coronavirus in Nigeria. Adeyanju, who is the convener of Concerned Nigerians, regretted the state of many hospitals in Kogi State, saying that the governor is not doing enough in the health sector.
Bello had on June 30, 2020, claimed that that COVID-19 is an artificial creation aimed at causing fear and panic among people. On January 18, 2021, the governor also discouraged the use of COVID-19 vaccine, stating that the jabs are meant to kill people.
Despite the governor’s denial of COVID-19 existence in the state, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control listed Kogi as one of the places Nigerians should avoid visiting.
However, the Kogi State Government faulted NCDC’s claim, accusing the agency of deliberately peddling falsehood to scare investors from the state.
The activist also faulted the governor’s position, saying that “he (Bello) is governing with lies”. He said, “You cannot govern with propaganda. You can not continue to govern with lies. Bello’s lies have expired. We kept saying there are COVID-19 cases in the state, but he kept lying. Some politicians are going secretly to take vaccines and denying COVID-19 existence.
“If you see a typical state in Kogi or hospital, you will weep. The state of some of the hospitals is enough to demoralize and make a sick patient die.”
He also tackled the presidential ambition of the governor, saying that Bello is only interested in becoming a minister.
Reacting to moves and endorsement for the governor’s presidential bid, Adeyanju said, “He is just contesting to become a minister, not president, should the All Progressives Congress wins in 2023.”
