I was also scrolling through my Facebook feed when this advert from a Channels TV clone page caught my eye. It was an advert about a money doubling scheme where you ‘invest’ your money and within two hours get double your investments after a trade. The advert also has all these positive comments and bank alert screenshots from people who have supposedly benefited from the scheme and are encouraging others to invest quickly and not doubt its authenticity.

The whole thing was a ridiculous and cheap scam till I decided to chat up the admin and realize others might actually be falling for such a cheap scam.

Money Doubling Schemes are ridiculous that you will think that no one should still be falling for such scams in Nigeria. But this scammers are paying for Facebook adverts and are going through the trouble of setting up fake bank accounts – which is not easy to do, they must be getting victims.

Here’s HOW CHYMALL WORKS

Under the scammer’s Facebook ads, they have all these positive comments from innocent people’s Facebook profiles that they’ve cloned or stolen. The purpose of the positive comments is to convince unsuspecting victims that the scheme might be legit.

They also run the advert on a page with Channels TV logo to make it seem as if they are affiliated with a popular brand.

The advert link will take you to the scammer’s WhatsApp business account where they already have this prewritten note for each potential victim.

Facebook will limit you to just 5000 friends if you haven’t taken the time to create a business page, and you probably don’t need to, because if you do, you will have to manually send a request to each of your friends to follow your new page!

Here’s how to turn on the Follow button on your personal profile:

On the mobile app, click on the menu option in the upper-right corner.

Go to Settings and expand.
Click on Privacy Settings tab.
Click and expand “Who can send you friend request”.

There will be two options here. “Everyone” and “Friends of Friends”. Select “Friends of Friends”.

Click on the back icon to return to Settings.

Under the Privacy header, click on Public Posts.

The way these criminals operate is they will send you a friend request on Facebook, usually with a clone account of unsuspecting foreigners, complete with their victims profile and family pictures to make them look legit.

Once you accept the friend request, they will send you a private message asking you random questions like, how is the pandemic in your area? Or what do you do for a living?

After establishing some level of rapport with you, these criminals will then ask you to have a video chat with them on iChat, knowing fully well that most Nigerians don’t own Apple gadgets.

Once you tell them you don’t have an Apple product, they will offer to send you one, they will ask you for basic information like your full name, home address and phone number.

In my case the scammer already have pictures of MacBooks, they probably just downloaded from the internet to convince you that they are actually shopping in an Apple store, some will even try to convince you with a receipt, all to make it look like they are in a store about to send you a free gadget.

After convincing you that they’ve bought your, the next step in the scam is they will tell you they are on their way to the airport to send you the items. For some reason these scammers are all relying on British airways using the same format.

They will then send you a fake waybill from British airways with your name and phone number superimposed on it. There’s also a phony tracking number on the waybill with the phone number of the scammer on it.

If you call the number, they will ask you to pay a small amount like N7,500 to clear your gadgets. It seems like a fair deal, pay N7,500 for a $1000 Apple MacBook and iPhone, except it is a scam. Once you made the first payment they will ask you for more and more money, as they’ve now sensed you are desperate and greedy.

The G7 richest nations in the world led by the US and UK have agreed on a deal on taxationthst will see tech giants and multinational companies such as Amazon, Google, Facebook no longer able to shift profits to low-tax offshore havens.

The landmark deal agreed on Saturday, June 5, will enable them to squeeze more money out of the corporate giants.

Hundreds of billions of dollars could flow into the governments of the Group of Seven (G7) from this new deal after they agreed to back a minimum global corporate tax rate of at least 15%.

Facebook in a statement said it expected it would have to pay more tax, in more countries, as a result of the deal.

“G7 finance ministers have reached a historic agreement to reform the global tax system to make it fit for the global digital age,” British finance minister Rishi Sunak said after chairing the two-day meeting in London.

The meeting, hosted in central London, was the first time finance ministers have met face-to-face since the start of the pandemic.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that “significant, unprecedented commitment” would end what she called a race to the bottom on global taxation.

German finance minister Olaf Scholz said the deal was “bad news for tax havens around the world”.

According to Yellen, the G7 meeting was a return to multilateralism under Biden and a contrast to the approach of U.S. President Donald Trump, who alienated many U.S. allies.

“What I’ve seen during my time at this G7 is deep collaboration and a desire to coordinate and address a much broader range of global problems,” she said.
