Reports had it that 50-year-old Ataga was found dead, murdered in an Airbnb apartment in the highbrow Lekki estate in Lagos. His murder was pinned on Chidimma, who confessed to the killing after she was arrested in her parents home in the same Lagos. She claimed she stabbed Ataga after he had raped her and became violent with her.

However, in a fresh twist to the Ataga murder saga, Chidinma said in an interview with CrimeReporters that she did not kill the deceased and that she only walked into his murdered body after returning from where she had gone to purchase the hard drugs they were to take.

She claims to be overwhelmed after being arrested, and sensing that nobody would believe her story, she confessed to the murder to journalists who had interviewed her after her arrest.

She however maintained that she did took the deceased ATM card and withdrew money from his account.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with CrimerFighters NG, Barrister Franklin Ufu who is a cousin to Usifo Ataga disbelieved Chidinma’s earlier confession that she acted alone in killing the deceased.

”I have had the very regretable priviledge of seeing that dead body five time. My cousin’s hands were tied so badly that the rope entered his skin. The rope is right there as an exhibit with the police,” Ufo said in the interview.

“That binding could not have been done by that lady alone, not possible, even if he was drugged. It is not possible because I saw the lady and I saw my cousin and I said this is not possible.

Apart form the fact that he was tied, there were multiple stabs on his body. So that story of two stabs and neck is not true. He was stabbed in other places, his leg. Infact in Yaba mortuary, the attendants were so dramatic that they told us clearly. The stabbing here (touching his stomach) was so bad it is a hole. The guy stuck his two fingers into my cousin’s body in my presence. He was stabbed here(touching the right side of his neck) deliberately twice and on his body multiply.”

In the meantime, Chidimma is still in the custody of the Lagos police, where she is waiting to be charged to court.

The appeal was contained in a statement signed by Olusegun Jolaawo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), on behalf of the law firm, Rickey Tarfa & Co, solicitor for the family on Sunday in Abuja.

Ataga, who was first declared missing on Sunday, June 13, was later found stabbed to death inside an Airbnb apartment in the highbrow Lekki area of Lagos – allegedly killed by his mistress, a 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos.

The billionaire businessman was until his death the CEO of Super TV.

In the statement, the solicitor urged bloggers and those behind malicious social media publications to refrain from publishing falsehood that impinges negatively on the integrity of the deceased, his wife and children or face lawsuits.

He also urged Nigerians to allow the Police to conduct its investigations without any distraction or interference.

“We know that suspect (name withheld) has been arrested and we know that investigation is continuing.

“Our client is, however, convinced that there is much more to this than is already apparent from the Police investigation.

“It has become apparent that from the variety and inherent malice in most of the media publications, they are planted to embarrass and malign Usifo Ataga, Brenda Ataga and the family,’’ the statement read in part.

It also claimed that the publications serve as a smokescreen to enable the perpetrators of the heinous crime cover their tracks.

“Our client appreciates the efforts of the law enforcement agencies in their investigations thus far and will not descend into particulars with respect to any of the said false narratives so as not to inadvertently aid the perpetrators of the murder in covering their tracks.’’

The lawyer lamented that the tragic incident of the cold blooded murder of late Ataga had inundated all strata of the media with inconceivable stories being peddled on all sorts of platforms about the incident and, therefore, called for restraints from the publishers of the unfounded stories.

“Our client requests that the well-meaning public allow the family to mourn their departed son, father and husband with some privacy and decency.

“Our client also feels very strongly about the unbridled activities of bloggers on the social media space with respect to this incident and firmly demands that the said bloggers desist from peddling falsehood aimed at maligning the deceased, his wife and children.

“The family will not be intimidated by these bloggers’ activities and insist that the Police be allowed to do their work.

“Our client hereby demand that the false publications and the several ordinarily unrelated stories and pictures of late Ataga and Brenda Ataga be pulled down with immediate effect.

“Failing, our client shall take prompt and appropriate action to seek redress for the apparent instances of libel and slander as appropriate,’’ he added.

Nigeria’s former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has defended murdered Super TV CEO disagreeing with the ideology of some Nigerians that Usifo Ataga maybe deserved as he was killed by his 21-year-old side chic because he was cheating on his wife.

Ataga was found two weeks ago, stabbed to death in a rented Airbnb apartment in Lagos.

Subsequent investigation by the police led to the arrest of 21-year-old Chidimma Adaora Ojukwu – who claims to have been having an affair with the Super TV boss for almost four months before his death.

While speaking to reporters after her arrest, Chidimma claimed both she and Ataga were both high on drugs the day she killed him, she further claimed Ataga had raped her and became violent with her, which was why she stabbed him in self-defense.

Since the story went viral, most Nigerians have been sharing their opinions with some blaming Ataga for his own death. Others simply say this will serve as a lesson for rich men who are in the habit of sexually exploiting young girls.

Giving his own opinion in a tweet, FFK opined that just because Ataga went to a hotel to sleep with a 21 year old lady doesn’t mean he should be butchered. According to him, Ataga was killed just because he had a high libido.

“Birds of a feather preying on young pretty girls” one Twitter user attacked FFK.

Another user was more sympathetic of Ataga in her response saying “He doesn’t deserved to die no matter what his offence was.”

Another blasted FFK saying “Yes we know FFK, yes, cos you are a champ when it comes to young women and changing them like your used boxers.”

FFK’s opinion seemed to have touched a nerve as others continued to blast the former Minister, one said: “Ok. So he is just another paedophile like you so you are rallying to support his dirty actions? Association of women abusers and those who f*ck by force by fire exploiting poverty and weakness to satisfy your libido. By their fruits you shall know them. I am by no means in support of murder by either of the sexes, don’t get me wrong but ffk get a life!”

Police say they are continuing investigations on the death of Michael Osifo Ataga, and his confessed killer, Chidimma Ojukwu remains with the police as she await her day in court.
