Why Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe wore The dot nation Nigeria T-Shirt
The dot nation Nigeria is trending, but what led to it and how did it start?
The latest person to join the trend is Enyinnaya Abaribe, a Nigerian Senator who rocked a shirt with the inscription “The dot nation”
The Abia state lawmaker popular T-Shirt added to the many opinion leaders on this matter.
So how did “The dot nation Nigeria” trend started?
The trend started from a gaffe President Muhammadu Buhari made recently during an interview.
Buhari described the banned Indigenous People Of Biafra [IPOB] as “a dot in a circle.”
The Nigerian leader said this during an interview with Arise News TV on 10 June, 2021.
He was speaking while reacting to the insecurity plaguing the country’s south east.
“Ipob is a dot in a circle, they cannot exist anywhere.
“With the way they are spread across the country, witt businesses everywhere
“And Ipob don’t know what they are talking about.
The 78 year-old leader continued: “And we said we will treat them in the language they understand.
“We will organise the military and police to pursue dem.”
Since this interview interest groups have been debating “dot in a circle” gaffe.
Some argued that the President’s statement is a way of referring the the entire Igbo people, most of whom support the IPOB as politically insignificant.
Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe is the senator representing Abia-South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The Senator is the latest public official to comment on the debate.
Is not the first time that the Nigerian President’s statement will spark controversy.
In 2017, he stood next to German Chancellor, Angela Markel and said his wife belongs in the kitchen and the “other room” after she expressed a political opinion.
In 2018, the president held a press conference in Poland where he told the world ‘I am not a clone.’ He had spent five months in a London hospital at the time without explaining why he had been away from office for that long.
He made the statement after people started to speculate he had died, and the five months was used to prepare his clone.
