Police admitted him to Estcourt Correctional Centre in his home town – the province of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday. Police had earlier warned that they are prepared to arrest him if he refuse to hand himsef to them by midnight.

Court sentenced Zuma, 79, to jail term last week afta he failed to attend a corruption inquiry.

The sentencing sparked a legal drama in the country, with deadline imposed for midnight on Wednesday (22:00 GMT) for the arrest of the former president. The court handed him the deadline after he refused to hand himsef in on Sunday.

In a short statement, the Zuma Foundation said the former president has “decided to comply with the incarceration order” and hand himsef in to prison authorities.

His daughter, Dudu Zuma-Sambudla, later wrote on Twitter saying her father is “on his way [to jail] and he is still in high spirits”.

No former president in South Africa has faced a prison sentence before.

Zuma was sentenced on 29 June after he went against instructions to give evidence in an inquiry about corruption during his nine years in power.

The Guptas, a South African business family were accused of conspiring with politicians to influence the decision-making process when he was in office. But Zuma had repeatedly clamed to be a victim of political conspiracy.

Though his own party forced him out of office in 2018, the African National Congress (ANC), he still retains a body of loyal supporters, especially in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

On Sunday, crowds formed what they called a human shield outside Zuma’s palatial home as part of efforts to stop his arrest. Similar crowds gathered before he handed himself in on Wednesday.

South Africans on social media are mourning the death of popular actor Luzuko Nteleko, who died at the age of 36 years old.

His family while confirming his death in a statement said: “We are deeply sad and hurt by his passing. Luzuko is someone we all love.”

According to the family, Luzuko was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in 2019. He tried to get well before meeting his untimely death on the 21st of June, 2021.

The family also added that burial arrangements will be communicated in due time.

The actor was popular in films like Zone 14, Streets of Mangaung, Isidingo and Ring of Lies.

Reactions to Luzuko death

As news of his death begins to spread, many of his colleagues and fans mourned his death and consoled his family.

Actor Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo late Monday night share her condolence on social media saying “Each day, we lose one. Each day. He has taken one special part of the heart with him. only a few people will understand. Go well mntase.

The South African government has said the stones discovered in the country which has led to a rush are not Diamonds but Quartz Crystal.

The Government gave this information one week after locals say they discovered diamonds in their village.

The National department of minerals and energy including enforcement and compliance units, plus geoscientists were sent to inspect the site.

Last week, many people from across the country rushed to Kwa Hlathi village after a cow herder discovered what he thought was a diamonds.

Videos shared on social media show as people dig through the ground in search of the precious stones.

The discovery of what is believed to be diamonds in Kwa Hlathi village of South Africa’s Kwa-Zulu Natal province just exposes how people are desperate to find a way out of poverty.

Studies carried out in the area shows that the site is geographically located at the edge of the Karoo dolerite sill and is not an area where diamonds are normally found.

The stones have been identified as quartz crystals which value is very low compared to that of diamonds.

The council of Geoscience will carry out further studies to see if other minerals are available in the area that can create jobs and improve the lives people living there.

The family of a South African man whose girlfriend allegedly gave birth to decuplet says they no longer believe that the man’s girlfriend gave birth to 10 children.

“We appreciate the public interests and support for the decuplets, and with no proof of their existence we firmly believe it’s in the interests of everyone to conclude that they do not exist, until proven otherwise, the family said in a statement seen by News24.

Last week, South African publication the Pretoria News published a story claiming that a mother from Pretoria had broken a world record, having given birth to 10 children.

However, there have been doubts over the legitimacy of the story since it broke.

Government departments, hospitals and social workers have all refuted the story in the past week. A story in the BBC identified Gosiame Sithole as Tebogo Tsotetsi’s wife, but a woman claiming to be his legally wedded wife has since spoken out about those claims.

Tebogo Tsotetsi, the family’s statement said, on Tuesday that he met with members of his family to inform them of the latest in the ongoing saga.

The statement read: “He (Tsotestsi) made several attempts to visit his girlfriend and the babies but she has failed to disclose her whereabouts and the condition of their babies.

“The current uncertainties and public discourse about the decuplets is of major concern to the family, especially in the absence of any proof of the decuplets existence other than telephonic and WhatsApp messages from the mother.

“The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise and wishes to apologise for any inconvenience and embarrassment.”

The government in South Africa says it has expelled diplomats from Lesotho and Malawi for their involvement in the sale of duty-free alcohol to bars and restaurants.

The diplomats were declared persona non grata (unwelcome person) for engaging in the illegal sale of illicit duty-free alcohol and were given 72 hours to leave the country, failing which will lead to arrests.

The government of Lesotho has expressed shock and disappointment in learning of the diplomats who have been thrown out of South Africa.

There are reports that short of cash Lesotho diplomats and their spouses have been bringing alcohol into the country without paying duty and then reselling it in bars and restaurants.

Lesotho foreign affairs minister Matsepo Ramakoae said they saw media reports that some diplomats were involved in this.

“This means that this has been going on for quite some time. We are going to take the report from South Africa, look at it and take action,”she said

The Malawian government has also issued a statement promising to take appropriate action against the diplomats.

South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), spokesperson Clayson Monyela announced the development.

“The Department of International Relations and Cooperation wishes to confirm that it has, on behalf of South Africa, declared several diplomats persona non-grata following an intensive investigation into their flouting of diplomatic privileges. The said diplomats were found guilty of engaging in illicit trade in duty-free alcohol.

… The government of South Africa has given the affected diplomatic staff members and their families 72 hours within which they should leave South Africa.

They are also expected to relinquish their diplomatic status by returning all the necessary diplomatic tools to Dirco.” He said in a statement

Monyela said investigations of similar transgressions by other missions accredited to South Africa are at an advanced stage and similar action will be taken should they be found guilty.

He urged diplomatic missions accredited to South Africa to respect, uphold and comply with all the laws of the land, including adherence with the prescripts of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

News of Gosiame Sithole delivering 10 babies at a Pretoria hospital may have grabbed headlines all over the world, but also sparked questions over its authenticity.

The South African woman reportedly gave birth to 10 babies, seven boys and three girls, which led to public appeals from the South African government for information about the mother and her children after it failed to find medical records at hospitals, both public and private

But for now there is a new twist in the story. Another woman Sibongile Gxekwa, 47, has approached News24 claiming that the babies’ father, Teboho Tsotetsi, is her husband.

She told the South African publication that Tsotetsi started seeing Sithole behind her back in 2020.

“He even went as far as going out almost every evening and returned in the wee hours of the morning,” said Gxekwa.

“When he started his escapades of going out at night, I confronted him about the cheating. I told him that the person he was seeing was either staying alone or residing with her parents. At the time, I didn’t know who she was.”

Gxekwa said: “He ultimately impregnated her. I recently learnt that she was pregnant with eight children. She also has other children, including triplets, apart from the twins the media has reported about. My husband even asked for prayers from his church for his girlfriend to give birth to healthy children.

Once it was announced that Sithole was pregnant, the Tsotetsi family turned against Gxekwa, she said.

Gxekwa said she was told that the decuplets were in incubators at a hospital in Pretoria.

“He has not told me anything about his new 10 children. He promised that we would talk about his new children upon his return from Cape Town on Wednesday. He has ordered me not to speak to the media about this matter. He has threatened to chase me away from our marital home.”

While Gxekwa lives in their marital home in Tembisa, Sithole moved in with Tsotetsi’s mother in Lifateng section, Tembisa.

Tsotetsi lives between the two houses, Gxekwa claims.

I dated my husband when I was 15 years old. In 2006, he completed his lobola for me. Since the news broke, I have not been feeling well. This entire situation has depressed me. We are both unemployed. My children and I survive on the money we receive from my parents.

Both a relative and a friend confirmed to News24 that Gxekwa and Tsotetsi were married traditionally.

Sithole has broken the record of the most children born at the same birth, previously held by Malian Halima Cissé, who delivered nonuplets last month in Morocco.

Before Cissé, the record holder of the most children delivered at a single birth – and they survived – was reportedly American Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight children in 2009. Her octuplets were conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Deputy head of the school of medicine at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) Professor Dini Mawela said Sithole’s kind of pregnancy was rare and usually caused by fertility treatments. The children will spend the next months in incubators because it was a “high-risk” pregnancy, she added.
“It’s a unique situation,” Mawela said
