His appointment was announced on Monday during the varsity’s emergency senate meeting.

Oke, who was until his new appointment the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of LASU is expected to replace Olanrewaju Fagbohun, the outgoing vice-chancellor, whose tenure expired on January 11.

Over 18 professors from about 10 universities applied for the job. There was, however, controversies over the qualification of some candidates selected to replace Fagbohun.

Earlier on January 8, the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had cancelled the previous process for the appointment of a new VC on the back of petitions arising from the selection procedure.

The Governor further directed that a fresh process that would terminate in 45 days should commence immediately, and also directed the outgoing VC, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun to convene an emergency meeting of the Senate to appoint an acting VC.
